Funding Success!

Heart of African UK logoHEART OF AFRICA UK Community Cafe @ LDVG!

Our good friends at Heart Of Africa UK are starting up a FREE Community Cafe thanks to funding from the Big Lottery.  They will be serving delicious African food on our premises and we want to help them make this a success! 🥰

These donation-run cafes rely on the help of kind-hearted volunteers to go ahead.  If you have some free time and want to give back to the community, please consider lending a hand for a few hours on a Saturday!

Saturday 2nd Feb, 12-2pm: VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY! African cookery class where you will learn to make Jolofo rice with chicken and fried plantains, FREE of charge.  You will get to take home the meals you make, and be put on a rota to help at the cafe.

Saturday 16th Feb, 10am-2pm: Community Cafe opens! Volunteers will cook and serve at the cafe using the skills they have learned at the cookery class!

Larkhall & District Volunteer Group are delighted to share the great news that they have been awarded the magnificent sum of £40,000 from the Morrisons Foundation towards the cost of a new minibus!  The Morrisons Foundation supports charities making a positive difference in local communities across England, Scotland and Wales. They award grants for charity projects and match fund Morrisons colleague fundraising.

Charities are encouraged to visit www.morrisonsfoundation.com to find out how to apply for funds.
Sandra McCrory, LDVG Funding & Marketing Coordinator said “We have been having a lot of problems lately with our minibus tail lifts, which are essential in assisting those with mobility issues access our transport.  The purchase of a new, state of the art minibus with a fully working tail lift, will enable us to continue with this vital support to our members and the community”.

LDVG plan to purchase a 17-seater Minibus Lite, with tail lift and many other other useful features. This ‘lite’ minibus will remove the requirement for a D1 on your driving license and will open up further volunteering opportunities.
